is the best way to clean wheel rim ? I rode two days ago and the rear break is squealing like a pig, so much so that I didnt want to use the brakes on a steep hill into Gressingham for fear some farmer may take a shot gun to the pig in pain
Only thing I can think of is WD40 on rim has contaminated brake hoofs.
For reference its a Cube X race with avid shorty Canti brakes.

You probably need to toe the brake pads in a little.
Adjust so the front of the pad touches the rim first. Only needs a mm or so.

If they weren't squeaking before it probably is contamination rather than toeing in. If my rims are mucky or pads are contaminated I use a clean baby wipes (infact I use them everywher on the bike) and then polish up with a dry cloth; I don't know if thats best but it works for me.

I noticed that the rears touch at the back of the pad first, knowing this is not really right but with these canti's I'm not sure how to adjust it. Bike was set up originally by Wheelbase in Staveley so didn't want to mess too much. Pics attached

clean the rims with meths (not white spirit or moisturising baby wipes as they leave residue behind)

Depending on how grubby the rims are, it will range from a wipe with a cloth or baby wipes, to scrubbing the rims clean with some warm water, a bike friendly cleaning product and a brush, even a toothbrush will do.
