I'm currently switching my PC from running a pentium d to the AMD phenom II x6 1055.

I've currently added a case fan, 550W PSU and have an old Nvidia 8600 GT graphics card on the pentium

I've recently purchased these
1 x AMD Phenom II X6 1055T
1 x Asus M4A88T-M 880G Socket AM3 Onboard Graphics 8 Channel Audio mATX Motherboard
1 x G Skill 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1333mhz Ripjaws Memory Kit CL9 (9-9-9-24) 1.5V
and have swapped all the bits over (my old MB has 2 SATA connectors and i want more!! plus need to process vidoes and images more) but my windows 7 keeps failing to boot on my seagate 160 GB hdd.

I've put my mums seagate HDD in running XP and that loads fine (didnt detect my keyboard and mouse so couldnt check functions) but windows 7 keeps throwing a wobbly and decides it doesnt want to play with me. it starts to load up and then dumps out 2 to 3 seconds after it trys loading. (the coloured balls literrally appear for 2 seconds tops)

my main question is will i need to reinstall windows on my hdd (i was thinking i may need a 64 bit version and im running a 32 at the moment) or could it be a mother board problem? it seems a bit strange to me. ive also noticed that one of the printed tracks on the back of the motherboard leading to a dimm slot has lifted and looks like its a little bit knackered, could this be the cause of my problems??

any input would be appreciated

You'll have to reinstall as win 7 will be set up for the old chipset.

Youll need need 64 bit as your running more than 4BG Of ram (including GPU memory). 32bit can only see 4gig max. 32 bit will still load, but you'll limit your memory.

If you have a damaged track on the mobi I'd bin it and not risk it. You risk blowing the whole lot, and if one tracks damaged its likely there could be other problems.
