Problem with Tekto Oryx centre-pull cantilever brakes

Hi all

So I'm trying to adjust my Tektro Oryx front cantilever brake (http://ow.ly/gjxsz)on my hated Revolution Cross hack, as the pad is pressing against the rim on one side.

There is a 2mm allen bolt which seemed to move the pad away from the rim when tightened. Unfortunately I've over-tightened it and the bolt is now on an angle and I can't loosen it as it's slipped slightly out of the bit that holds it... help!

Any clues please??

I'm not overly familiar with the model, so this may be wrong, though most cantis are similar.
The screw presses against a leg of the spring, releasing this spring (it probably clips in behind the arm) should release the pressure on the screw. The screw being at a skew is probably because it's gone past the part of the spring it should be pressing against, so you may have to wiggle the spring to release the screw.
I replace the grub screws with cap heads, so I can use a larger allen key.
When adjusting it shouldn't need that much pressure, you only need to equalise it, quarter turn at a time, tighten one and slacken the other.

I think that if you take the affected arm off the bike you should be able to see into the 'back' to take a look the spring and cammy thing that the screw tightens against.

Should give you an idea as to what is happening in there.

Generally both screws shouldn't normally be screwed in too far - you only need enough tension to pull the pads smartly off the rims when you release the brakes - and the tension needed is not usually too much.

Has it always rubbed on the rim or did it start rubbing just after you last replaced the wheel?

Just after I last replaced the wheel... changed to 35mm winter cross tyres.

The brakes were fine - you needed to centre the wheel.
