I have not watched it, but the new series of Poldark reminds me how my mother used to enjoy watching the 70s series (she's still alive btw, which is good). She also liked:

  • The Liver Birds
  • The Onedin Line
  • Brothers

I can't remember what my dad like so much, but I remember him talking about The History Man.

My mum used to watch Dallas, Dynasty, etc. Dad only watched Top Gear (old version) and Monty Python.

Sport, panorama, news night for Dad, and then both would watch Natural History programs.

As a child I can also remember series like only fools and horses, James Herriot, the Good Life, and Gardeners World?

My mother liked the soaps, Westerns and anything about the First and Second World Wars. My father disapproved of almost everything on television (and that was in the days of only four channels so I've no idea what he'd make of televised entertainment today) so generally listened to the radio instead.

My mum used to love watching Liberace...

And the wrestling on a Saturday afternoon. Les Kellet was her favourite.
When my gran visited from Derby I used to watch Liberace and Come Dancing with her, got to stay up late to watch the dancing
My gran used to go to the wrestling and sit in the front row
Probably Big Daddy and Giant Haystacks era
Still a "closet" fan of Lee

Dad it was mainly sport, sitting in the living room watching Grandstand on a Saturday and I can vividly remember being awake in bed hearing the Sportsnight theme.
The World About Us on Sunday nights.
I think the only thing mum ever wanted to watch was Songs Of Praise
