Promax Hydraulic brakes

I'm considering buying a bike (Charge Grater 2 , second hand) which has Promax hydraulic brakes on it. I've heard a lot of negative stuff about Promax brakes but this might be just from intensive mountain bikers. I'll be using my bike mainly on roads but with steep hills occasionally- are the Promax reliable enough?

Any help on this appreciated.

Try ‘em first, then you can consider an up grade if you’re not impressed.

You won't be able to use BB7s or Spyres as they are cable operated. Presumably you have hydraulic levers.
