Protocol For Arranging Job Interviews

I have a job interview next week. What's the protocol for arranging them? I don't have any holiday left and taking a day off sick will cause too many questions to be asked. I don't like lying anyway but I can't just tell them I have an interview.

What would you do? Or what have you done in this situation?

I am my own employer. But when I had regular jobs I could ask for a day off without having to give a reason. Not every employer treats its employees like children.

Now you are asking for a day off? What if they said no? Clearly your employer could do without you. Have you ever thought that doesn't apply to all employees. Let's say .......teachers for instances.

True, but what is one to do? Make up an improbable hospital appointment?

They've been known to ask to see appointment cards and get suspicious if there isn't one.

I think this is the winner. They'll go for that and I won't need an appointment card as it's unpaid.

They get really funny about people being ill unless it's a planned operation and/or a hospital stay. I don't like saying I'm ill when I'm not. When I was a retail manager I often caught staff out taking a sickie.
