Is it the done thing to say a cheery helo to people you whizzpast on your commute? or is it seen a a bit cocky?
I overtook a lady this morning, quite a speed difference and said "mornin'" in quite a loud cheery voice...

It was only when I got in to work that I thought this might be taken as a bit of a in your face you slow moving fool" comment by some cyclists...

Pointless wonderings, but if someone overtakes you and is quite loud and cheery in their greeting, does it pi$$ you off a bit?

The regulars I say hello to - get one back !!!

Usually say mornin if it's near traffic lights etc.

Certainly have got chatting to a few cyclists recently - chased a fixie rider down, then had a good chat, flew past a nice lady (in full civvies - i.e. long dress and stuff) then had a chat at the lights for a few minutes.....

Does bike rider relations good....

It was a "It's grim isn't it" to a fella tonight....."Not good" was his reply - then he sat on my wheel as I just span away into a headwind and rain......

Yeah, its pretty cocky to say something while overtaking... By all means pass the time of day while stopped at lights though!

It seems to vary from place to place. What do other people do when they overtake you?

Oh, hang on. No-one is faster than you, right?:biggrin:

You said it.. not me!

I always have a chat at lights and nod/wave when passing in opposite directions, i shall refrain from my cocky jeers as i pass the slower folk though...

Nothing cocky, if it's your regulars....... come on...

I was chatting to a LADY at lights - i.e. she was dressed like she could have just stepped out of a car....., and there was me sweating buckets, steaming up my glasses......etc.......looking like a right mess (as I always do.....) Wished her a good ride as I steamed off into the distance....

Don't get hung up about it , I don't... certainly works well in horrible weather, as you'll all have a laugh !

I only tend to say something if someone has seen me and let me past. Feels a bit like I'm rubbing it in otherwise, and might make them jump if they've not heard me coming up behind (oo-er!).

Sometimes I say something ... just to let them know that someone is coming by, but not always, I guess it depends on the conditions, road space etc.

This morning someone shouted nearly caught you as I turned off.... I took it the way it was meant in humour but it was a regular that I often see.

Wot... dressed like a normal person? Riding a bicycle?! No lycra or nothin'?! Pull the other one!

Next you'll tell us she was just using it as a mode of transport, not racing or anything...

I normally go for a cheery "Oi, get off the fackin' road", or possibly 'ere, get in the cycle lane dickhead!" or sometimes a cheeky "Pay some fackin' road tax you caaaaant!".

If the person I am overtaking appears to be struggling a bit, breathless etc. I feel it is my duty to inform them of the extreme gradient just around the next corner.
