Benvenuti al Giro d'Italia, or welcome at least to the PTP thread for the 2025 edition of the Giro.

The Grande Partenza takes place in Albania this year, meaning that the race will begin this Friday. Don't miss out on making your picks for the GC and Stage 1 by waiting for Saturday.

The start list looks to be more or less complete now and you can find it here: https://www.procyclingstats.com/race/giro-d-italia/2025/startlist

Last year's champion isn't riding (he's just been off winning everything else) so the GC favourites with the bookies are: Roglic, Ayuso, Adam Yates and Tiberi. Will we see a Bernal renaissance? Or a new age of Landismo? Can Michael Storer really be a GC threat? Will there be a GC breakthrough for a younger rider like Del Toro or Arensman?

You can find guides to the stages in various places but a good one is here: https://www.cyclingnews.com/races/giro-d-italia-2025/map/

Will stage 1 be a sprint or a battle for the first pink jersey between WVA and Mads Pedersen? We then have a TT in Tirana and a final Albanian stage before the peloton reaches Italian soil. The sprint stages begin before a Strade Biache style Stage 9 and a vital TT on stage 10. The GC battle will come to a head on stages 19-20 before the final sprint into Rome.

If you'd like further information about the route then have a look at the official site here: https://www.giroditalia.it/en/the-route/

You can find plenty of information about the start/finish towns and places of interest along the route. I'm especially looking forward to learning more about Albania as it's a place I've never been or know well at all. Most helpfully, there are details of the local food and drinks for those of us who like to eat or drink our way around the race.

Good luck with your picks and I'll do my very best to provide updates after every stage so you can monitor (or boast) about wearing the PTP pink as the race goes along. I'll finish as I started, with a final warning that we begin on Friday!
