Pulling out in front of me.

So I'm cycling southbound on the A38 just north of Bristol at Woodhouse, there's a road off to my right with a car on my side of the road, in a filter lane, waiting to turn right into it.

Lady driving a small MPV full of child seats takes a good look at me then pulls out of the road on the right, straight into my path. Often, drivers will do this & keep well over to the right of the carriageway, so that I can go up the inside whilst they accelerate. This lady hugs the kerb though

I'm on the drops and had been doing about 20mph according my last look at the speedo.

I have to jam the brakes on hard, so as not to collide with the rear of the car. I shout "oi" and the lady looks in her mirror to see me shaking my head.

When I catch her up, at J16 of the M5, I stop alongside her car, and say that I just want her to tell me that she won't do that again.. A lone young Mum in car, me in balaclava 5ft 11 and red in the face, she TOTALLY ignored me & refused to acknowledge me at all.

I said I'd ask the police to talk with her if she wouldn't talk to me... although I have not bothered to report her.

Had a similar thing, didnt need to say anything to her though she was already mouthing sorry to me through her window, mistakes happen eh?

That's the view I took although some apology would have been appreciated !

I just hope she has learnt that we ain't all cycling at Miss Marple speed..

I think that seems to be half the problem, they think we are going slower than we are. Its why Ill always slow at junctions ect just in case.
I was sat at a stop yesterday, a small roundabout a few yards down the road, saw a cyclist in all the gear enter the roundabout and a car moved in front of him from the left blocking his way, causing him to swerve behind and shake his fist in the air. He hadnt slowed at all, just pushed on. This is why ill slow, saves a lot of possible problems. Especially when there is a lot of slow moving traffic around, you just dont know who is going to nip out or push for a space. I do the same while driving too.

I do slow down when I can see trouble ahead, and I did lift off a bit in this instance. I thought I had slowed enough, but the silly driver didn't give it enough beans when she pulled out.

If she had been in a faster car, she might have been able to accelerate away from the problem, and I would have not had to brake quite so hard.

It's a 40mph wide A-road so there was plenty of room for her to get her backside over to the right of the road as well, which would have given me an escape route. I hope she learnt a lesson.

Slowing doesnt solve all the possible dangers, but it helps most times.
Im guessing she will have learned something, like road position with an approaching cyclist , and not to underestimate a cyclists speed, we hope

If it's the junction I think it is (the scout turning?) - then it isn't that wide with the traffic island there too just immediately south of the junction though the rest of the road is wide. I made a mistake on my way home and immediately said sorry realising I was in the wrong, which was accepted by the other person by the way they smiled in return. I wish people would realise and acknowledge when they are in the wrong - helps the world to rub along a little smoother.

People do make mistakes from time to time, but an apology, even a 'sorry' gesture goes a very long way imo.
