Apologies in advance if there's already a thread covering this - looked but couldn't see anything specific. Any advice/recommendation on a decent repair kit, looking at a quality buy so happy to pay to get it. Seem to be plenty on the market, a lot pitched around the same price range; much of a muchness or are there some brands that stand out from the crowd?

Don't bother with the Parks self adhesive ones. In my experience, they are OK for a roadside repair, but you need to replace them with a proper patch when you get home. After a while the glue seems to fail.

Carry a spare tube for roadside repair and repatch at home.

Go for patches with a feathered edge.

Use proper rubber solution.

Try and get a kit that includes:
- Wax crayon: For marking tyre, tube direction and hole location. Needed for checking tyre to ensure cause of puncture is gone
- Block of talc: Absorb excess solution, will need ...
- Sandpaper: Roughen up/clean tube at puncture location & turn block of talc into powder.

Just my preference.

Like Touche says a kit with feathered edges is a must. Tip Top kits are nice but I've been using the EBC Revolution ones for about a year now and they seem to be just as good for half the price.

When I'm out sur velo, I carry a pump, couple of spare inner tubes, Tacx tyre levers, some self-adhesive patches, tissues for cleaning surface of inner.

Normally if a puncture occurs I simply change the inner tube. I have however, had occasion to use a self-adhesive patch or two (on the odd occasion I forget to replace an inner tube in my kit..) and I've never had any problem with self-adhesive patches not sticking. Indeed H*lf*rds self-adhesive patches are about the one thing I recommend about H*lf*rds..

I seem to be lucky and all my puncture repairs kits have been OK. Usually though I just buy rubber solution and patches separate.

One thing I seem to do different to everyone else is, despite carrying a spare innertube is, I always repair the puncture at the time if possible. I always plan on my next puncture if I am unlucky to get a second one on the same ride, I may not be able to repair it, due to bad weather, bad light etc so then I would stick my spare innertube in.

spare tubes are quick reliable solutions but if you dont remove whatever caused the puncture youre back were you started and no repair kit if you put all your trust in the new tube , skabs are good self adhesive patches ive got two on my front tyre that have been there about 4 months now no problem get them at halfords or lbs
but a proper kit is worth its weight in pies .

Are most people using self adhesive patches now?

I have an old fashioned repair kit with vulcanizing rubber solution, but the tube is getting low and I am not sure if I can replace it.

Then again it is well over a year since I last had to carry out a repair and the was a pinch p*nct*re...

Cheers, I thought I was just rubbish at repairing punctures, but I'll dump those Parks self adhesive ones and try something else in future!

i think the main reason why instant patches dont work very well for some might be that they contaminated the adhessive by touching it or not clearing the tube well enough ,
weldtite patches have a tab on them unlike say skabs , leeches also have the tab thing .
