As I rode to the end of a side street a bloke haired round the corner on to my side of the road missing me by a couple of feet. I caught up with him as he parked just down the road and asked him what he thought he was doing to which he replied what did I think I was doing riding the wrong way down a one way street. This angered me twice because it was not a one way street and even if it was that is not a good enough reason to swerve a car at me.
I tried to point out to him that it was not a one way street and that he was badly mistaken. The street was no entry to cars coming off the main road but that nowhere is it stated that it is a one way street. In fact all the road markings point to it being very much a two way street. The other end has markings for traffic going both ways and more pertanent to our discussion there was in fact a short cucle lane comming off the main road going in the direction he claimed was not allowed. He even resorted to saying that he had been driving for 42 years so knew all about it. I replied that it just meant that he'd driven badly for 42 years, that he didn't know what he was talking about and that he was not only an idiot but a dangerous idiot.
For all my thinking that we should remain calm and ignore idiots like this I simply could not help myself firstly confronting him and secondly letting myself get all riled up and cross. He just ignored everything and walked off. I still wish I'd kicked him right in the bollocks even though I know this is a bad thing. Grrrrr rant over I think. Thanks for listening if you did. Grrrrrr.

I would have done the same Cyclopathic,I have no time for morons.Though saying I have no time for the latter probably means I should probably ignore it.

Sympathies mate! It's tough to deal with people like that one, what a scunner. That sounds like a situation that would get almost every single one of us angry and frustrated and fearful too.

This is why I like my camera. It really helps me to keep calm, much calmer than I used to be without one since I know the camera will tell the story again later and will bring consequences so I don't mind accepting such abuse at the time.

At the moment I feel like I missed an opportunity. This feeling will subside with time and I know I wouldn't actually do it or anything like (unless of course in self defence, say he was walking away from me in an insolent manner for example I'd be justified) but thanks for your words nevertheless. I know it makes sense.

More than anything it was his utter refusal to accept that it was not a one way street that got to me. His conviction that because he thought it was so then it was, despite any evidence to the contrary. His belief that 42 years on the road was in and of itself proof enough that he was right. By that logic if I'd been a bit older with more years on the road I'd have been right. Except of course I wouldn't because he wasn't having any of it at any price.
Ok that is definitely my rant over with now. I've had some coffee and a fag and vented spleen so feel much more human now. It would be lovely to have the composure and self control not to allow ones emotions to take such control. I'm firmly of the belief that the only thing really in our power to control is ourselves and that it is there we must begin to change things so when it happens that I loose that composure it bugs me a bit.

Well, you don't have anything to be ashamed of for not being perfectly Zen like. I imagine half of us on here would like to kick him in his how's your fathers for you, if only wishful thinking.

Sounded to me like you were reasonably controlled in your response and said some sensible stuff.

This is the time a frame mounted D-lock and some nice sharp cleats make nice marks on a car. What a pillock.

I live in a road with this layout. I have had people doing this for the best part of 15 years on aweekly basis whilst I've been on cycle, motorcycle, regular car and 4x4. and going in the direction they consider to be a 1 way road. That said having people coming through the no entry is a real wind up as they regularly hit 60mph by the far end of what is a only wide enoug to accommodate a singe car in each direction. We get as many cyclists ignoring the cycle plug and just riding on the pavement as well which is dangerous in itself for residents leaving their properties. At leas you can hear a car coming.
