That's terrible, but I wouldn't hold much hope for him being caught. Anyone who does that is likely to be riding an uninsured, untaxed, unregistered machine.

Imo theres nothing to be lost by trying. Hope something comes of it.

That's awful! Sympathy from the other side of the globe.

We got 'em here too. There's a special place in hell for self-gratification artists like that.

Thanks for all the virtual tea (and very genuine sympathy). I'm still a bit shaken but nothing a stiff drink won't cure.

I've spoken to plod who was very sympathetic. In fact she mentioned checking the CCTV in the area before I had chance to raise the issue. She also said she'll get a piece put in the local paper appealing for witnesses to come forward. I'm just really annoyed I couldn't get anything to identify the scumbag. I'll certainly be watching out for him in the future - he'll be easy to recognise as I'm sure he'll do a double take when he sees me. I'll be calm take his number and report it. As others have said, that evidence might be flimsy but you never know...

Unfortunately the motorists around when it happened were all too concerned with me and my well being (for which I suppose I should be thankful) but it would've been nice for one of them to get the toerags reg.

The real downer is that I've got a bit of work to do on the bike and I'm a bit too bruised and sore on the hip to be able to cycle so it looks like I'm off the bike for the rest of the week.

Just a thought, but do buses use the route that you were on? If so, and they have external CCTV, and you had a time and a place for the incident, you could work out which buses (and at roughly what times) might have caught him on camera. Of course the police would not chase this up, too much time and effort, but if you really wanted to catch the scumbag, this might be another thing to try....

That's another really good point - in fact, I think there was a bus in the opposite lane. Not sure if they use CCTV but it's worth a try. Would you say it'd be best to call the bus company or go backto the police on that one? I guess both wouldn't do any harm.

I cant understand why someone finds the need to spoild someones day like that, I try when I can to help people, smile, use peoples names in shops if its on the badge, just do as I would be done by, I am not claiming I am a saint but I have never deliberately gone out to hurt someone, makes you wonder what goes on in their sad little lives and to a certain extent its probably the result of bad parenting, being bullied or buggered by uncle Nobby.

I learnt early in life to be nice until someone takes the p1ss, then I take pleasure in returning the favour, I like the idea of Karma but cant wait that long.

I am vindictive if I feel wronged and couldnt let it drop until I had satisfaction, Scooter boy would be hunted and when I was satisfied beyond all doubt I had the right one, I would then consider my options, there would be a very stern talking to.......

As you say, both, but if you contact the bus company they should be helpful. In fact I think you have a right to demand any footage that they have which you are on. I could be wrong though and I am sure someone will correct me if that is the case. You might have to pay a small fee though.

Hope you get better soon Monnet, and your bike. And I really hope you do somehow find a way to track the little ********* down and bring him to book. The fact that he was laughing shows it wasn't a heat of the moment thing, rather a deliberately calculated act of malice.

Still, he was probably "just avin a loarf, innit?"

Excellent news that Ms plod seems to be taking it seriously. One genuinely concerned cop makes all the difference in the world. Keep us all informed as & when anything progresses.

Apart from anything else, if they do get the guy, if they can't do him for assault, they can do him for leaving the scene of an accident... and even if he doesn't get done at all, just having a visit from the police can shake a lot of people up.

On the downside, most CCTV is not of good enough quality to be able to make out registrations if it is not specifically installed for that purpose. Getting even a partial reg always helps, especially if it is a more unusual vehicle (like a moped). Sometimes however it is impossible, especially if you are lying dazed on the pavement...

That was a joke, by the way.

I'd hire a 7.5 tonne truck!

Bloody hell great Police you have.

For my hit and run the police did nothing here in London. Luckily a civvi worker at the traffic dept has taken it upon herself to chase up CCTV.

4 weeks off the bike so far

Good news said bike has been resurrected.

IIRC the law was changed about 3-4 years back to allow for this (BBC news even did a peice on it, might have been local report though). The police should be able to deal with any "red tape" if the situation gets sticky.
