Hi.
I haven't done anywhere near the mileages that some of you have done in the last 12 months but I've hit 3000 and feel quite good about achieving it. When you put this into perspective though 3000 miles is like cycling from the east coast of the USA to the west coast. Put another way its like cycling right across Australia or Europe. Its quite mind boggling to think that an hour or two every other night ,cycling around can amount to such a distance. Also it makes you appreciate how simple and reliable is the humble bike. Two punctures and a minimal amount of maintenance has all that's been needed to keep it working smoothly ( and that's on a 34 year old bike).
If it wasn't for work commitments etc it makes me wonder how many more miles I could of done. A lot of you good folk have done many more miles than me and couldn't imagine how far you may of theoretically travelled across the globe via pedal power :~)

I've climbed 39,000 feet so far.
Everest is only 29,000.
I used to plot a line in google maps in a pretend round the world yacht, I used to use my distance to lengthen the line. It took me about 7 years to make it back to Berwick:wacko:
I have since set sail again, I have went up north round the top of Iceland and I am now near the southern point of Greenland - I am heading up throughthe North West passage and then into the Pacific - may be head to Hawaii:wacko::wacko:
How do you do that? Call me sad but that sounds like an interesting idea.

I long ago stopped counting. Less a comment on my mileage and more a comment on my can't be arsedness

I do about 1250 miles per year commuting which is nothing to shout about. However it saves me 1750 miles of car driving per year for which the diesel would cost £200. The £300 bike was thus paid for in 18 months.

How far can I go?

I've ridden more miles than I've driven this year. My bicycle has nearly as many miles as my motorbike (my wife and I share it), bought roughly around the same time.

I'm having a bad year mileage wise, 2674 miles so far this year, I was having problems with illness at the beginning of the year. My usual annual mileage is between four and five thousand.

5800 miles!!! Now that's some serious time in the saddle buddy. You could put it another way in that you've cycled from San Francisco all the way to central Brazil .The mind boggles at that amazing feat of pedal power :-)
