One of the greatest moments of my life was seeing Aretha Franklin at the Radio City Music Hall in New York in February 2012. It was touch and go whether the show would go ahead as shortly before we flew to JFK, Aretha's neice and god-daughter, Whitney Houston died and there was talk of her cancelling all booked performances. We'd gone specifically to see Aretha as we had an overwhelming desire to see her and hear her majestic voice but we knew she'd never come over here again so we had to go to see her and if that had been cancelled, we'd have been distraught. Fortunately, the show went ahead but the one a couple of days later, in Philadelphia, was cut.

I feel truly blessed to have seen her perform live.

Madonna and the 'stars' of today aren't fit to lick her shoes
Madonna isn’t a great singer. She is a great showman.
Two very different talents but both equally superlative.
As for the modern stars, I tend to agree.

A couple of years ago whilst on holiday a family of 4 joined our table. The father told us he had taken his daughter to see Madonna live and was very disappointed by the constant swearing and poor show. Horses for courses I suppose.

I used to get her mixed up with Martha Reeves of Martha Reeves and The Vandellas fame. There's a grave in my local cemetery with the name Martha Greaves on it. Every time i pass it i say "and the Vandellas" to myself. I know it's not funny to some:unsure:,but i have a little :giggle: to myself when i see it.
Well it made me chuckle.
