The monarchy in the Netherlands has a tradition (at least in the latter half of the 20th century) of abdicating to let the younger generation take charge. It's not something that we have. Our Queen believes that she was appointed by God and will stay on until she dies.
Not that it really makes that much difference as the role is ceremonial, anyway.
