Did the first commute in the dark yesterday and well worth the effort.

Despite my concerns about the lamps running hot - the driver circuit is inside the lamp bodies, they get barely warm due to the cooling effect of air moving over them.

If I were to do the same again, I'd fit two 6 degree lenses as thes are far more effective of lighting up the ground than a 12 degree lens.

Just need to get out in the dark with the old lamps and take some photos to complete the story.

Irony is that the days are long enough for me to get away with no lamps  should ahve got my finger out and have them ready by oct last year, oh well, roll on autumn and winter 2009!

Proper home made organic front lights! I should have thought of that! I feel a project coming up -- you know one of those things where one spends £50 to fix a £10 item

Post the pics & schematics.

Sainsbury's are selling 3 LED front lamps for 99p. Only problem is they're illegal on the UK's roads (have sent an email to them about it) as they are green rather than white. ;)

I've bought some cheap white LEDs from maplin to see if I can upgrade them.

Very much looking forward to seeing the finished article ;)

As you say, it's getting a bit late in the Year now but at least you'll be ready come the slightest hint of commuting darkness at the end of the Year
