What I found 'unpleasant' about the list was the number of HGV, Taxi and bus drivers were involved. I know we all say that "blah, blah, blah bus driver did this, taxi did that" but these are people who drive thousands of miles a year as their job.
As horrible as it may be for them to have been involved and I'm sure they will have it on their conscience for the rest of their lives, people are not going home to their loved ones because of a lapse in concentration or a very poor misjudgement. I'd throw the book at them - no I'd throw the whole bloomin' library, but sadly if they get prosecuted at all it will be the 'don't be a naughty boy again' kind of punishment.

I drive as part of my job and clock up approx 20,000 miles a year doing it. There is no excuse for this to be happening, but until the politicians are prepared to take on the might of the motorist and challenge the Mr Toad attitude on our roads it will not change.:banghead:

Sorry got on a bit of a rant there:heat:

You've answered your own question there.

It's not the dying part that worries me as we all have to go sometime.

It's the being crushed under the wheels of a lorry/bus and suffering a long and excruciating painful death that worries me.

I think we are detracting from the list. Thats someones father, mother daughter, sister, brother. One cycle death a year would be one to many. Until the opinion regarding other road user other than drivers changes and the measures enforced there will never be any change.

I was listening to the local radio this morning, they had a phone in about "the popularity of cycling". I don't think that i heard one person saying anything positive about cyclists, they just went on for the usual anti cyclist moans but they seem to be getting more aggressive towards us! One a former bus driver was saying how we all ride the pavements knocking women and little children out the way. He also moaned about how he goes for a drive on a Sunday and has to pass loads of cyclists riding in packs, many 2 or 3 abreast and how he targets them!! When asked what he meant he replied that he drives at them if coming towards him, cuts them up when he eventually manages to overtake and how he waits for them down the road to confront them.
I hope one day that he either has a serious medical mishap while getting fired up or that so called pack turns on him!:cycle:

B*astards. It's like a war of the roads, of who has rights. And drivers always mention 'road tax.' One of my old cycling buddies is a boxer, would be funny if that bloke did that to him :boxing:.

It is a shame that one can't record such outbursts, send them to the DVLA with a full ID of the perpetrator, and ask them the question of whether they think such a person is really a suitable candidate to be allowed to drive a motor vehicle in a public place.
