Oars women
Doesn't go so well with 'Hooray Henrys' though.

Knowing someone who was part of the women's rowing team at Oxford 20 years ago, I feel reasonably qualified to say that I suspect the culture amongst all rowers - as with any elite sport - is rather unhealthy in its own way.

Apparently both boats sank in 1912, although that was a bit before my time........................and television.
A pity the
And why do Oxford and Cambridge always get in the final?

Why not bin all the knockout stages of University Challenge and just have Oxford and Cambridge in the final every year"?

But mostly quite fun I would suspect

Being expected to stay on a rowing machine until you are sick from the exertion doesn't sound fun to me. Of course this was the early 90s. It's probably different now ...

No it is not, if you want to get to the top of most physical sports you have to suffer, and suffer a lot. Which is the point that many who think they are just hooray henries just having a good time do not understand and certainly could not do.

Pretty much the same for track cycle training. I recall reading about Chris Hoy doing something similar on an exercise cycle thingy. It's a mind set that I'm happy not to have.

Yeah to me the Boat Race isn't so much about who is in the boat, but more about what they are doing.

Having done a bit of rowing myself in my time, I can totally appreciate the amount of work that goes into it and, in fact, all races, even if it is just on a friendly club level.

Clean sweep for Oxford too, well done!
