Another golden oldie that used to talk common sense. She did a lot of good with her shows. It's a pity that she was unable to push the assisted dieing debate more as she neared the end. RIP Esther Rantzen.

The assisted death hit us as a family hard, as it was a horrendous two weeks for MIL to pass. Over a week in a hospital room with some crazy family distress ! I was there with the three daughters, and only me and my wife understood the 'process'. It's shoot, could have been finished very easily with a steady morphine driver.

A woman who managed to combine light entertainment with championing serious causes. I'm sure she got up a lot of people's noses but sometimes that's the way you make a difference. Seeing shots from "That's Life" is a reminder how different things are today from that bygone age of TV when viewers shared a more common experience due to a small number of channels, rather than the fragmented experience we have now. She said she didn't think she'd be remembered but it seems to me that the support systems such as childline and others that she was responsible for setting up will be her memorial. RIP Dame Esther Rantzen.
