TBH I dont think they need a regular cycling spot. No channel does. The car ones are done out of entertainment and because the majority of people over 20 drive in some capacity.
The beauty of cycling is that we dont need it.

Why not ? Houses, DIY, Gardens, Fashion, Cars seem to be on constantly.
Most people have a bike, so why the exclusion ?

BTW do other countries feature Cycling on TV ? (I don't mean sport just normal stuff) Can any CCers in Europe comment ?

Bikes, to normal folk, are not varied and interesting; they are at best functional, and even then, not to most.

Cycle sports are a niche market. Even now.

We have some good stuff on ITV4 and thats as far as it will go for the next couple of years I reckon. The Beeb doesn't need to worry as yet, the internet fills in any other void related to cycling.

What cycling needs is someone, a bit like Bear Grylls, to go on touring adventures to show the versatility of cycling. Every week a new place and adventure.

You're talking out yer hoop.

What it needs is "Lisa Rogers is a bike" or similar.

I think it ran for nearly 10 years, but that may have included repeats, and about 4 series.

I can't agree about it not being inspirational. It portrayed long distance touring as fun and enjoyable, and was known to have caused organised cycling holidays in France to sell out for a number of years.

The title was amusing and truthful - got to attract people to listen in the first place, and the material was presented in a light hearted way - got to keep them listening.

The content was good factual stuff and presented a very positive message about cycling as a way of seeing and visiting places, and of the health benefits of cycling.

Tom Vernon who produced and presented it is/ was a lifetime keen touring cyclist, and that came across all the way through.

I think it made at least one TV series as well.

Trouble is, it's the only example of a cycling programme I can think of. I can't recall the health benefits of cycling being featured in any of the BBC Health weeks, or the weight control effects of cycling in any of their diet programmes either.

All the indications are of ignorance and of poor and lazy research. I would hope it's just that and not prejudice.

I think I read somewhere (Cycling Weekly?) that Mark Beaumont, the round the world cyclist, is going to cycle the height of the Americas through the lumpy bits - the Rockies, Andes, etc, and that it is being filmed, I think for the BBC.

Sounds like good news.

Pity, if there's going to be programming that encourages people onto 2 wheels, that c**p like last Friday's You & Yours can get to air!

Not too much like Bear Grylls, please. On account of him being such a cock.

Bear... he's a t*sser who mashed a snake to death when he should have listened to the native people on how to kill it properly.

Ray Mears is the man, imo. A true legend, and I cant beleive Grylls is the top man now at the Scouts.

..sorry end rant.
