Which law has been broken?

It's not against the law to overtake another cyclist.

Its not against the law to overtake another cyclist but the OP stated.... I like to chase down other cyclist on my bike and race them

The road traffic of 1988 is section 31 states
Regulation of cycle racing on public ways.
(1)A person who promotes or takes part in a race or trial of speed on a public way between cycles is guilty of an offence, unless the race or trial—

(a)is authorised, and

(b)is conducted in accordance with any conditions imposed,

As the race the OP is taking part in is not authorized the law which is broken is the Road Traffic Act of 1988

Please see post #12.

I still like post #12 and the views expressed in it are still valid. However you do not have to be with someone to be racing. A time trial is a race against the clock.
From a legal perspective the intent of the OP was/is to take part in unauthorized races on the public highway which was clearly stated.
As such when asked which law was broken I simply pointed to the appropriate one.

If you’re the competitive type, or you look for ways to amuse yourself whilst commuting, then this is a great pastime for you!

Silly Commuter Racing is simply a collection of witty and tongue-in-cheek rules regarding passing fellow cyclists. Anything dangerous or illegal is strictly forbidden, only safe, legal overtaking is permitted.

The weather's warming up and Noddergeddon looms, fresh scalps for the taking.

Cycling faster than someone else is bad behaviour? Come off it.

Downhill overtakes don't count, and neither do overtakes as you slow to turn off. They don't count. No siree.

......unless they turn off because they know they're going to get overtaken. Then you're entitled to feel 'Super Smug'. IMHO, every single rider I've ever encountered who turns off has done so because he knows he's going to lose, and lose bad:whistle:

Has anyone said that the other cyclists were racing? Or do they just ignore the other ride?

I dunno, but people have gone all political on this post. It's just a bit of fun. Cycling is amazing wish I had done it years ago. But I'm only 25 years old :-(

Ahh. So as usual it's ok for cyclists to break the law but no one else. Sounds a bit like the "oh no officer I wasn't speeding by that much" excuse, after all YOUR machine might not do too much damage but the vehicle that has to swerve to avoid you might. Like I've said before if you can't ride within the law don't start crying when someone else breaks it. If you want to race go to a track.
Tell me where I said it's acceptable for cyclists to break laws.

I'm not breaking any laws, when testing myself against another cyclist. I keep to the speed limit (pretty easy for a cyclist), give way when required, overtake safely, give pedestrians warning when I need to, etc.

Naturally, yes, that's a point to you.

Roadies in packs are the worst. A couple of times they've drawn level and hugged my wheel and it boils my wee. If you're going to overtake just do it already, if you don't and you start sucking my wheel like a scumbag wheel-sucker I will drop you. I will not look at you, I will not recognise your presence in any way. But I will beat you. Idiots. In fact they're probably racist, in a way, they make presumptions based on how I dress, same as a racist. Sort of.
