Racing the local farm dog

I was riding on my local loop yesterday when a dog came running out of a drive and started chasing me. He was keeping up really well alongside me, and didn't give up until I was sprinting at over 30 mph. Now I guess the cyclist going in the opposite direction shouting at me just before must have said, "Watch the dog." Thanks dog, for giving me the motivation to break my strava personal record for that segment.

Ha ha, nightmare when that happens. Not sure why these dogs do it, but the first time that the collie round here catches the farmers tractor is going to be interesting.

I was on an Audax yesterday and got chased by a miniature dachshund. That would have been ok, but he was in a terraced garden and at eye level. Delusions of grandeur. And having done 1500m total ascent I didn't have any juice left in my legs to escape. Luckily the owner came out and shouted, 'Biscuits!'

I lived to ride another day.

It must have been the day for it yesterday. I had 2 farm dogs chase me, then a little rat of a dog suffering from small dog syndrome and someone else I know got chased by a Rottweiler on his ride!! That would get your speed up

30 sounds about right. My Lab was pretty much flat out at 26 on my mtn bike rides (downhill, obs...).

It was pancake flat - I'm only a mere mortal cyclist, but adrenaline kicked in and this was on a good road bike!

It did make me think, if I was on foot and running away from it, I wouldn't have a chance. Clearly dogs can run pretty fast when they want to.
