Rail versus coach travel

I suspected that to be the case, I was just putting the fact that it isn't always that expensive even traveling the same day.
What time did you have to leave to get there by coach for 10.30?

The coach left at 6:15. I could probably have caught the one an hour later.

When I was a student i travelled by coach because I was time rich and cash poor.

Prefer trains to coaches because I get the bike on them, prefer buses to coaches because I can use my pass, prefer coaches to trains because they are cheaper. Prefer trains because they are the most comfortable way to travel.

Rail and bus services in this country are both shockingly bad ways to travel. I would not willingly pay for either - awful, truly awful.

My Son got the Mega Bus from Victoria to Amsterdam for £4 there and £4 back by booking in advance. Don't know how they do it!

Which ever is most suitable for the journey I am going on, they all have their good and bad points but trains are very expencive.

You used to be able to get normal busses on one of those day roaming tickets for MK to Reading (via Aylesbury & High Wycombe), pretty cheap if you aren't in a rush but I think about 4 hour journey time.

I'd use trains a lot more if the prices weren't so expensive when you buy on the day.

Trains can be reasonable, I did village to London and back in the week for work, all on public transport (bus/train/tube) for just under £50 - a lot less hassle than taking a car, I'm sure a coach would be cheaper but it wouldn't get to London in an hour.

Trains can be reasonable, just not during peak time. When I travel Reading to Tunbridge Wells, which is least as far a rail journey as Reading to Milton Keynes, it only costs me £20 return with a rail card. If I wanted to return a different day, it would only cost me £22. Even without the rail card, it would only cost about £32.
