Rando,

Fingers crossed that the doc is being to pessimistic (they often are!). Remember, each day is a day closer to getting back on the bike, even the days where you feel like you've taken a backwards step.

I've just found it too - where have we all been?

Glad you're doing so much better but wishing you all the best! Chin up!!!

Can't believe I only just saw this, sounds awful, but glad they at least think you'll be able to cycle at some level. Good luck and get well soon.

Hi Chatterers:

I'm resurrecting this old thread just to give an update on my condition. I hope Shaun won't mind my linking to the story (based on the original account I gave in this thread, three-years-ago) on the accident and my present outlook.

During my convalescence, it was great to meet a couple of Cycle Chat habitués who stopped in to see me while on tour in Canada. Hope you are doing well, Helen and Dylan.

I'm just now starting to do a bit of riding, though I'm left with permanent disability and chronic pain in the affected ankle, not to mention aches and pains from the weird gait I'm left with. As a result, I haven't had much in the way of cycling to report, but maintaining VeloWeb and social media relationships sure helped along the way.

I had three surgeries in all, with one to attend to a bone infection (and follow up treatment) being the most trying.

Thanks again to all the people here who helped me through a difficult time. Much appreciated.

Ride on.

Well done Randochap, great to hear you can get back on the bike after such a long and difficult time of it. Look forward to hearing more of your progress.

So good to hear you are able to ride again.
I missed this first time around, probably avoiding the 'bad news' stories as I was getting back into cycling, so have only just read the account of events.

Incredible that you are still here and getting better.

I wish you well with your continued recovery, in both body and mind.

Cheers, all! We're finally getting some summer here. Planning to return to the north by car later in the month, but with my old Rocky Mountain Blizzard (on which I toured Alaska, Yukon and B.C., 18 years-ago) on the roof rack. Plan is to do some day trips from a "base camp."

Today is beautiful though, perfect for a leisurely pedal along the oceanfront.
