Gatwick Airport Station was originally called Gatwick Racecourse and had special sidings for horse boxes built on land taken from the De Gatwick land owning family.
The name Gatwick was first recorded as Gatwik (also the site of a manor) and is itself derived from the Saxon 'Gat Wik', meaning 'Goat Wik', Goat farm or Dairy Farm.
