I've just looked at the event photos of the guy who set the best time in the sportive I did last weekend. He's a chubby bloke in his late 40s on a cheap machine, he's wearing trainers and using toe clips.... given that he beat the second and third guys by 4 minutes (both younger, whippet thin and using full carbon tri flying machines as seen in their photos) I smell a rat... someone knows a shortcut.
