Heard a whisper that Carol Vorderman being brought in for the baps and buns.

Another "stitch up", this time from HMRC.

And the issue of "sporting advantage" raises its head once again...the earlier "no competitive advantage" nonsense seems like, err, nonsense. As anyone not a Rangers fan knew all along.

See they announced another year's losses today. £7.5m to win the third tier of Scottish football. Wasn't loaf man talking about a spending spree in January?

Old enough to know better, too old to care!
Makes you wonder why hmrc continue to pursue this

I think this is being used as a test case. Having established a precedent the taxmen will now be chasing many other, non-extinct, football clubs who also used EBTs. The potential returns in future cases could far outweigh the costs of this one. Also, establishing that there was illegal tax avoidance allows them to pursue the individuals responsible even if the club/company/whatever is beyond reach.

"EBTs were paid as loans, not salary, and therefore the liquidators now have a duty to call in those loans? A lot of former players and staff will be worrying about that point this morning – HMRC will do anything to get their money."

"...learned judges have pointed up the fact that Rangers benefited from breaking the rules. It is surely a short step from there to an accusation of cheating."
