Ok it's taken a bit of time but finally removed the fleece and found some grass underneath! Though one small patch hasn't taken and yes there are weeds in it.

Oh yee of little faith. I shall be providing evidence. I need a few more weeks though. I'm off to buy a lawnmower this week.

@summerdays I've got weeds too. I reluctantly need to use a broadleaf weed killer as a one off. otherwise I fear my grass will drown.

I'm NOT going to have male pattern baldness, I'll sprinkle a few more grass seeds in that area ... there seem to be some there but they haven't sprouted! Have you tried grass seed on your head to see if it works? And if so can we have a before and after photo?

Here you go, just a few weeks later .....

I know, still as baldy as Rich but I put some seeds down in one bald spot and new growth is already appearing. I shall buy some more later in the week and re-sprinkle. Remember, I'm not after a perfect lawn, just a temporary one until the great garden makeover. Just as well really, as it's far from perfect.

Noticed how I ignored Mort and didn't get into a paddy.

Why's that, are you going to sell it on e-bay for a quick profit?

Hope you buy one of those cylindrical push mowers

and not a Hover or a Flymo, as they will pull out the new grass and the roots, which won't have had time to delve further into the ground in pursuit of moisture.
