If you didn't know, German vehicle spares generally are very expensive, compared to other car makers.

There maybe an odd part which comes in cheaper, rarely though
I found this for a Mini Cooper, so it'll be more or less the same as the one in that Mini Roadster I reckon. Just over 78 quid and what, an hour's work to fit it, and that lad says it'd cost £1,000 for parts and labour! Mmmm.😏

Maybe this lad in question is trying to put me off buying it for some reason, either good or bad.🤔 I'll see if the MOT centre across the road is open today. If it is I'll ask the owner about the price of BMW parts, compared to Fiat, Ford, Nissan etc parts, especially asking him how much a new clutch on a Mini Roadster would cost.
My sons cooper r56 clutch was not a bmw part nor was the clutch fork either.

Had one of them: same year and colour too (mine had black leather though)
Absolutely glorious and the only time it let me down was due to lack of use (battery problems).
I'll forgive its complete lack of ground clearance for the noise, steering feel and rear wheel drive adjustability.
When I sold it, the new owner sent me a postcard from his holidays thanking me.

I had a 3000m and loved it

This is my favourite part of the thread so far. I asked a guy who is related to a guy who sells car parts😂

Nope! His dad who's a qualified car mechanic sells car accessories and still does work on various cars, while the son helps him. Hence his knowledge of car mechanics.😉👍

As I said better the devil you know, if it's a good one, fair enough, however if it lunches the engine, or has irreparable electrical gremlins, you've lost £5,600, if the BMW specialist is any good, get him to give it a once over when they bring it look at, it would be worth the cost to avoid buying a pig in a poke

I spoke to the BMW/AUDI, also MOT centre bloke yesterday, asking about Mini Roadster engines, and the cost of their parts. He said their engines are ok as far as he knows. Adding the Mini's parts will be more to buy and sometimes more to fit than for a Fiat 500, but not many cars are cheaper to run and maintain than Fiat 500's, so it's to be expected.

Whilst clutch kits can be cheap, the fitting usually isn't. Thrust bearing went on the Aygo, but due to cost differential between a bearing and a kit, then the same labour cost (which was the main part of the bill), it was better to spend the extra £60 on a full kit.

The Prince motor is DMF equipped, and that also requires replacing at clutch time. You're looking at £900ish to £1200is depending upon the quality of the parts and the ability of the garage staff to read English, for a full clutch and DMF job.

They go very well, but theyre absolutely riddled with VVT, timing chain, worn piston ring/high oil consumption, and fragile cooling system coponents made from plastic, nkne of which are cheap to repair and some of which can be fatal of not caught in time.

Even when theyre going well they need maintaining by someone with more nouse than Bombsite Motors down the industrial estate, and that costs extra.

If youre going to buy a used hand grenade Accy then try to avoid one known for having its pin dangling halfway out already.
