On rough roads my new bike has an irritating rattle, which I'm fairly certain is the internal cables rattling against the frame. The rattling isn't there on smooth roads and If I grip the down-tube very firmly it reduces the rattling significantly.

Is there a cure?

Perhaps changing the cables would have an effect. New cables might lie in a slightly different position and not rattle...Or it could make it worse I suppose. Perhaps a couple of wads of cotton wool could be poked down to where you estimate the noise to come from.

Also make sure it's not the headset. I had a rattle when I was young and naive, the shop thought it was cables. I Sussed it to be headset. Numpties.
