Does anyone know where you can get good old Wilkinson Sword stainless steel blades anymore?.

You can get them online from here

http://www.executive-shaving.co.uk/shaving/safety-razors/safety-razors.php

£1 for a pack of 5 or £5.79 for the Platinum Merkur for a pack of 10

The Merkur ones are on Amazon for just under £4

They do have shops outside the M25, I used to get all the shaving requisites I needed in the local chemist.

I apologise for any offence caused my Northern* chum.

In the days of yore almost every city, town, and indeed village would have had a local barber where men could gather to chew the fat and get their weekly shave. Alas, this is no longer the case (esp. outside Jermyn St and Brixton)**

I'm one of the mug & brush and soap scraps crowd. Didn't realise that there were so many others!

As far as a professional job from a real barber, I've heard of this fellow on on Fleet Street...

Brush and regular bar-soap for me and cheap blue twin blade razors.

This can sometimes work surprisingly well, although I would at least recommend you buy the Wilkinson Sword Shaving soap, you can buy a tub from Tesco for under £3 and it will last you a very long time.

I am a big fan of Merkur (not so much their Vision shaver) but their blades are OK. Instead, I suggest your try these Japanese blades called 'Feather', they define what is meant by 'razor sharp'.

Don't waste your money on that gunk lad, get yourself down to London posthaste and invest in a badger hair brush, a double edge 'saftey razor', and some of Geo F Trumper's (or Taylors) shaving cream.

You're probably a little too fresh faced to brave the Saddlewood, but try the lime, rose, or Taylors Eton cream - their luxury soap is mighty fine too! The tub of cream will set you back £7 and last you half a year; the badger brush and razor shall last a lifetime. Plus, you'll get a smoother, closer, more comfortable shave.

There is a forum called Badger and blade, I suggest you google it.

+1 for Badger & Blade, a thoroughly civilised place and my second favourite forum

+1 also for investing in quality kit.

Personally, I'm a straight (i.e. cut-throat) man, which should mean I never need to buy another blade. I will, of course, because straights are habit-forming.

There are downsides. The initial cost is high and it takes a long time to learn to shave properly.

And I'm pretty certain that there are no secret chemicals on my hundred year-old blade

The bit that I shave on my neckline is done with Gillette gel and a three blade battery razor but I find that the water needs to be as hot as possible, near boiling if I can stand it.

Posh Hotel soap is exceedingly cheap! Body gel, shampoo and conditioner all work fine for me too. I'm not a hairy monster.
