I'm still pretty saddened this morning at the going of Vernon and it lead me to think about others that are no longer with us, like TheGreatGatsby from long ago and am sure there may be one or two others.
Would it be appropriate to have a small members-only area like a Book of Remembrance where posts about the dearly departed are subsequently archived?

I think an annual summer ride would be appropriate - maybe move the locations around the country to give lots of people an opportunity to attend.

Set a location, date and start time and get together to remember those members who've passed away.

Ride, chat, eat and remember together. :okay:

It's a strange situation because you can feel you know some forum members quite well and become familiar with them yet never meet them in the flesh. In this digital age I think it's appropriate to treat them in the same way online as somebody you knew socially. It doesn't offend me at all to see Vern remembered in this way, especially as it's with such obvious fondness on all parts. I just regret that I never met him.

I'm not sure this is necessary really, all the threads are archived anyway aren't they?
They are, I just thought that as time passes the number of those departed will inevitably increase, it could be a one stop shop to remember all those that have and will go before .... if that makes sense.

A forum I used to use had a section like that. Pretty depressing really. If it was here it would be another section I put on ignore like, Cyclist Down. Personally I don't need a section like that to remember people, especially someone like Vernon who's pretty damn difficult to forget.

Bring a pie ride seems a much better idea.

Fair enough, I've never seen it elsewhere so had no idea if it had a value or not.

I only just found out he had died. And only indirectly by hearing it mentioned in another post. I knew his name, soassumed he was a regular. I would welcome a forum just for announcements so I am aware who has gone. Hope not to be in there myself for approx 25 years based on average death rates
