Read only folders - how to get rid of them

For some reason or other the folders on my NAS drive have become read only - doesnt seem to be an easy way in W10 - to undo it - DOS and the ATTRIB function seems to be the solution - I havnt done DOS commands since windows 3.1 appeared - before I have a go anybody got any hints/tips? - need to sort it so that I can access save what im doing more easily

Can you bring up file properties?

Doing it to folders give you the chance to apply the changes to every file in the folder as well.

But seemed too simple.

I think you are missing something - done that a trillion times - does all the applying attributes for 10minutes but nothing changes

Are you allowed to change them, on your account settings?

From what I can see i cannot apply ATTRIB to the Z: drive - I have to do it a folder at a time

ie ATTRIB -R Z:\Admin\*.* /S

seems like the wild cards are verboten

ATTRIB -r Z:\Admin /S

Is it a WD NAS, Smiffy? I would imagine this can only be solved within the NAS admin console.

Yup - I will look in there - I sort of think it only started to manifest itself when the NAS had a firmware update the other day

May not be your model but I bet it will be similar

sounds like when the firmware update went through it changed the folder defaults to read only - now need to find the control panel

Going to do a full reset on the NAS - it says doesnt affect data - however - full backup on NAS in progress - some 200gB - time for this weeks shop at Tesco
