I have a Complete Sewing book from Reader's Digest published in 1983 and have just bought the 2009 edition. Also got their Gardening Encyclopedia.

I used to look out for the monthly magazines when on holiday. Found some of the articles easy to read in a foreign language.

They used to do good books on things like DIY and places to go and see in Britain if I remember aright.

Got both the DIY, places to go book and IIRC a Walking book... or that might be the AA.

... but were they really helpful books when it came to actually doing the job?
My memory is their excessive use of photography. There would be about six photos illustrating removal of the cover and precious little advice on how to fix the problem under the cover.
