It's too big - the stricken mouse could never commit suicide with that. It can't reach the trigger with the muzzle in its mouth.
is this better

I've a Jack Russell that I could lend you. She'd sort your problem out in a few seconds.

Would that be the House Mouse, Mus musculus domesticus, by any chance? The one that lives almost exclusively in proximity to humans or their dwellings?
 yep, thats almost certainly the one. They may live in or near dwellings...but live in or near mine...:gun:^_^

Try buying a humane mouse trap next time !
Humane ones aren't always humane. We had them, and weren't using them at the time. Unfortunately a mouse got in and wasn't discovered until it was too late. Lesson learnt: make sure they are left with the door closed when you aren't using them.

So is it dead yet?

We need an update.
We went out mid-morning for a pre-planned trip to buy my wife a new bike*. On our return a few hours later, all was silent and has been since. So I assume the mouse is dead, and there may or may not soon be a smell in our kitchen. I do actually regret having been the cause of a living creature having died in a less pleasant manner than ideal, but those traps have killed their previous victims instantly, and once it had crawled behind the end panel of the unit, nothing short of a major chain-drilling and jigsawing exercise would have got it out.

*those of you whose only encounters with me have been in the context of a steel-framed, weight clearly not the highest priority, M+, mudguards, panniers and kitchen sink touring bike, may be pleasantly surprised to know that we got her a lightweight, aluminium-framed, slick(ish)-tyred bike with, miracle of miracles, even a carbon fork...
