Reality TV

We have had a lot of posts about reality TV recently, Strictly, The Apprentice, I'm a Celebrity (no your not ) get me out of here.

These programs to me are the worst type of TV garbage I have come across, most of my friends would agree with me, now I can't help observe that they are popular among some people on this forum so I thought a pole is in order as I find the cyclist I know in general agree with me, so is it me gravitating to like minded people as friends and are my cycling buddies & I in a minority? cast your votes.

I don't watch those or soaps. I'd rather watch a historical drama, or factual programme.

'Reality TV' these days is because everyone now knows they are playing a part.

I voted is the worst but, now I come to think of it, I don't really know as I have never seen any of these programmes. I've seen trails and promos for some of these programmes, I am aware of what they are, but I have never watched one. As far as I know it might be the best tv ever.

Quite why they are called reality programmes is a mystery to me, they are not based on any reality I know of. Now, if a TV company wants to make a real reality programme it can come and film me painting 200 foot of skirting boards in between walking the dogs.

The worst are the "scripted reality" ones like Made in Chelsea. They are not true reality in the sense of a fly-on-the-wall documentary, but neither are they real drama with actors. They seem to occupy this strange middle ground and I can't understand why anyone watches them.

I can't vote for No though as there are worse things to watch on the box. If it was a straight yay or nay I'd be right there!

I voted no but can't really pass judgement on it wrt quality. What I do know is it seems to be a big cog in the whole "celebrity" mechanism which includes gossip magazines, tabloid newspapers and websites, none of which I have any interest in.

Was about to post the same, Masterchef, Apprentice and Strictly (recorded so I can fast forward everything bar the dances). The poll is rigged therefore I will not be voting and for that reason, I'M OUT!!

cant say I care for them. But some do else it wouldn't be as popular as they are. TV can not cater for all tastes and keep everyone happy. I loath sport on TV but I have the option to not watch it. It irks me too when people slag off the Soaps, it was the highlight of my very elderly grandparents day, they used to look forward to it, it was their 'escape' if you like, I used to get confused calls from them asking if my TV has coronation street on it because theirs had football, the soaps obviously rescheduled to cater for the wendyball...

As to reality tv, it's not generally my kind of thing, but I can see the appeal, and as a onetime fan of The Apprentice (I gave up simply because I eventually tired of the repetitiveness) I certainly wouldn't call it the worst kind of telly. Think of the competition! Even now, I'm thoroughly enjoying a series called Life is Toff - a 'fly-on-the-wall' account of the lives of a family of potty-mouthed aristos. It's a hoot! And a heartening tale of how even in these days of incessant testing, league tables and cut-throat competition, it's still possible to live a happy and fulfilling life despite being a cretin of the first order.
