Hi all,

Do you know any apps that allow realtime tracking that I can use when I am cyclng?

I can find any number of apps that will track and when I finish the ride it uploads it. I want something that will sent a tweet or email every x minutes automatically with a link to a map that shows where I am.

Any ideas?

Do you mean you want to keep an eye on your other half?

Yeah I can see thats an option. Its the other way around. I want her to see where I am - she can have the kettle on ready for when I'm home.

Any idea?

I've been playing around with an app (for android) called 'macrodroid'. You can set it to relay your location every 60 minutes, or whatever time you specify, via sms or email.

Excellent John,

Thanks for the tip, that works great. I now have a tweet every two mins, so the other half can see when to get the kettle on. Actually we're doing a large ride this weekend and I wanted my family to see where I was, this is great

I'm still looking for something that will allow tracking but this is a great step.

Endomondo is pretty good and free for the basic app. I used to use it all the time before getting a new garmin gps. The wife could log in and see where I was if she wanted to.

I have recently started using Endomondo. My wife likes to track me, and there is nothing dark about it, it's just a bit of fun. Our problem is that the tracking on my home computer often seems to stop, although continuing to record on my phone. Today we did two things that may have affected the track. My wife changed the map image at home to satellite from map, and at the same place I plugged in an external battery to my phone. I wonder if you know things that affect the tracking from home.

I am nearly 67 years old, not in the best of health with some issues, and it is reassuring to know that if I have problems en route I can say exactly where I am, or my wife could see exactly where I am should I need help. Thankfully I haven't needed to use it for that reason yet but it's good to know I can if needed.

@compo in order to pass the data back you need a data connection on the phone, so if the signal is patchy your wife will lose the tracking, however recording directly on the phone doesn't need the phone signal as it just records locally.

I understand the data thing, and only needing it to "report home". However, if the signal is lost ought the phone resume the track on the home computer once the data signal is re-established. It seems I lose the signal and that's it, it just wont reconnect with home.

Cake or ice cream? The choice is endless ...
Glympse is also one to try.
I use Glympse to send a location update occasionally. All you do is send a text or email from the App, click on how long you want to be tracked for and add a message if you want. (You can turn on or off the 'track speed' option as well)
The person receiving the text clicks the link and can follow you.
I used it on the L2B so my daughter could se my eta.

Thread resurrection!

My phone has recently received an update from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 and Endomondo now works perfectly. I can now use "auto pause" and it auto resumes OK and it doesn't stop tracking all the time like it did. It must have been a slight incompatibility with W8 causing it to play up. The battery is lasting a lot longer than it did as well.

If you have an android phone you can share your location via google plus and the missus can then just look and it will ping your phone for an update.
