Sounds like a plan DooDah, although i don't like the sound of it. (the pain)

If you two rings in the front, it is probably 50, 34.
In that case, I will prefer to have 12-30 to be easy on the hills.
If I am changing the cassette, I may even consider 12-32, to get a gear ratio as close to 1 as possible.
But I am not sure, if you do that whether you need to change other components such as chain etc.
