Just wondered if anyone has ever 'lost' a rear cycle rack from thier car.

Just bought one and although getting to a ride is easy with the bikes mounted on the back, I just wondered if it is worth taking it all down and loading the rack in the boot when out on the bikes?

Unless you can lock it on, expect to lose it when left in a quiet car park.

I bought the lock accessory for my Thule rack; an extra £10 but worth it IMO. I'd say that it would get stolen - everything that isn't bolted down gets nicked these days. Probably safe (ish) at a busy cycle event though.

Thanks guys.

It is not a Thurl but we will get into the habit of taking it off and loading it into the boot I guess.

I had the same worries when I first got my rear cycle carrier, three years on and after being v careful to load it in the car (boot on Mini to small!) for a while, I just leave it on now. Never had it knicked yet! As its getting old and battered not so worried. Watch this space might not be so smug when it goes missing miles from home and the dilema of how to get bike into Mini
