im sure this has been asked, and answered, a hundred times over... But how do I find out what mech hanger I need, and how do I go about buying one?

I've a 2015 Specialised Allez Sport (I believe)

Thanks in advance

Take a pic and post it here for me, I'll try and find you one.

Take the hanger off and go to the Specialized dealer?

Beware: Specialized fit different lengths of the same hanger on some of their bikes depending on the cassette range.

All do a wide range of hangers.. but beware some 3rd party hangers are almost as stiff, (if not stiffer) then the frame material, which isn't how they are meant to be.

When fitting a new hanger, I always check the alignment and adjust so it's bank one before fitting the mech, wheel etc. I've had a few that are so stiff they can't be adjusted without using quite a bit of force. I've now gone back to using genuine hangers, which tend to be softer and will (hopefully) give way long before the frame.

I think some hangers are made of pig lead and bend if you so much as look at them. I recently had some and, when straightening them with the alignment tool, I put them aside as emergency spares and ordered two from 925engineering as they were all too flimsy. I know there is a fine line between sturdy and doing their job and bending when required, but there are so many variations (and prices) of hangers out there, it's a sellers market.

Some genuine OEM hangers are great, others are like soft cheese.

I'd rather bend my hanger in an accident than break my frame.

The point I was making, Globalti, wasn't to have a hanger that will remain unscathed through nuclear war, but one that won't bend or become misaligned EVERY time you put it on a bike rack, EVERY time you lean it against a tree, EVERY time you change gear! As I've said above, some hangers do their job, some are just way too flimsy to be anything but an annoyance to a rider.
