Rear wheel a little wobbly

My rear wheel is a little wobbly, when I hold the wheel top and bottom there is some sideways play. It has been yonks since I messed about with bikes so cannot remember if the rear bearings are adjustable (or it could be something else).

I think most are adjustable but you might need to clean and regrease them if it's not been done for a while. Some bikes use cartridges, though.

One guide is http://www.sheldonbrown.com/cone-adjustment.html

Often it's 17mm spanners for the locknuts and a 16mm cone spanner for the cone, but I bet they vary, so measure if you can. I tend to adjust the non-drive side but I don't remember if there's a reason why! Usually there's a shield hiding the bearings and sometimes there's a rubber boot covering the cone and shield. If it's a quick-release wheel, then there will be some play until the QR lever is closed. If you post pictures and/or descriptions, you may get more tips. Good luck!
