Hi all,
Ms T.F. often gets pins and needles in one hand despite double wrapping the bars. Looking for a recommendation for a good pair of gel mitts please.

Does she have issues like carpal tunnel or neck issues off the bike? Seems odd it’s just one hand on the bike?

I use a few tricks to make drop bars more comfortable.
Pick the right shape of bar, they vary in width, drop depth and curve. The old fashioned ones that curve back a bit with a narrow drop are good.
With the brake levers, play around with height and rotation. Reprofile the grip by stuffing small bits of inner tube under the rubber. You want the main point of contact to be the middle of the palm not the edge of the hand.

No other issues no. In the winter her left foot gets very cold and in the summer her right hand gets p and n!
She has ergo bars with the big flat area on the top and they are double wrapped with soft tape.

Thanks guys, I'll check those suggestions out. @Ming the Merciless yes, good point.... her set up is pretty much saddle level with bars so should be ok from that respect. 👍

She could also try moving saddle back or fitting longer stem. Both of these actions will reduce the weight / pressure on the hands. Generally you set the saddle to get the pedalling dynamics right. Then you change stems etc to get the weight distribution and reach right.

Hope it's not too late, but I'd warn against the Specialised BG Dual Gel mitts. On mine, some of the gel pads started to get pushed out of place within a few miles of cycling. I returned those, but the replacement pair were just as bad. After 2 or 300 miles, some of the gel pads are completely flattened. I'm a heavy rider, but my wife's pair (bought at the same time) are starting to go in the same way, and she hasn't used them as much as I have. I'll keep mine until they're no longer usable, then chuck them in the bin and never buy them again - I'll probably go back to my cheap Boardman pair, which have lasted much longer and are still as good as new.

I've been a glove/mitts wearer for most of my cycling life, for warmth, comfort and in case of falls. However, for the last couple of summers, have ditched the mitts and ride with bare hands. I'm actually finding it more comfortable and more feeling thru the bars/hands for braking and control. No sweaty mitts getting bunched up and causing issues.
