Recommend a hybrid/commuter

My friend wants to get a bike to commute to work and pedal around town, looking to spend ~250 pounds.

I was looking at the Edinburgh Bike CoOp Revolution Courier Classic which I've heard is supposed to be pretty good, but was wondering if anyone had any other ideas?

Have a look at the Carerra Subway range at Halfords. They have had good write ups.

Don't forget to budget for lights/lock/accessories.

Dawes' Discovery range might be worth a nose too.

Subway Carrera 1 is a brilliant bike. £200 Halfords. Had for 18 months now and done over 2000 miles on it. Had no problems what so ever. With the spare £50, you can also buy a good lock (or two) some lights etc
