Recommend an app to try and see where my friend is on route?

i know apps such as Find My Friend exist which seem to allow you to know where close family are, however I'm looking for something that would only broadcast my location when I switched it on. So I would use it if I was going to meet my friend, or the day that I went mountain biking and separated from my friends when I was tired (so took the road to skip one part of the ride), would allow them and me to know if we were going to the same meeting spot.

I wouldn't want them to permenantly see my location nor could I imagine they would want to share theirs all the time.

If you've got a Garmin Edge* paired with a mobile phone, you can switch Live Track on when you want to (or not!) and invite people to observe your general awesomeness, including location.

* - it's on the 810, but I'm not sure what other models feature it.

Google+ Locations is one way to do it, or, for Android (possibly OK for fruit based phones as well, I don't know) is 'Glympse'. You can text or mail a link for them to open to see where you are.

None of us have a Garmin or other technology's so something based on phones.

That one looks interesting .... I'll experiment with Mr Summerdays tomorrow and see how it goes with both it and Google plus... Before sounding like an odd ball to my friends!!!

Glympse is good as it's only 'On' if you decide to use it and send the link. You can set the time you want the link to stay active as well.
Google 'Locations' can be a bit of a faff remember to turn on and off all the time.

I have got Waze though I don't really know how to use it, and only really turn it on when I'm on the motorway and wanting to know if there are any major problems.

The thing to watch, whichever you use. Is what other information is being sent from your handsets.

Those ones seem to be more spying on people? Maybe I've got that wrong but I want this to be two way when I'm expecting to meet someone, and we have both agreed to it.
