I enjoy my camping comfort and during the summer hope to spend a few nights camping in France whilst on tour.

I'm after a pillow that is at least 45 cm wide and about 15 cm deep (or a combination of pillows to achieve this). Inevitably it must be light and pack up small...if a compromise has to be reached I'd go for comfort first, then pack size, then weight.

Any ideas?

I can't really get on with camping pillows! I've got a cheap mini pillow from go outdoors which stuffs into quite a small stuff sack, but I tend to take a proper pillow case in which I put all spare clothes/soft things and then the mini pillow.

When we car camp I take my pillow from the bedroom!

I usually carry a back pack on my luggage rack for walking explorations of towns and cities along the cycle tour route. This covered with a towel doubles as a pillow at night. The back pack can be stuffed with spare clothing in order to adjust thickness to suit.

A friend bought a memory foam pillow from Dunelm Mill and cut it in half - it rolls up and doesn't take up much room but goes back into shape for sleeping. Think it's done 3 tours now, about 12 weeks in total.

It is called a 'Boyfriend Pillow' . Apparently they are good for people who want a cuddle, but not the hassle of a relationship

I use a partially emptied two litre carbonated drinks bottle wrapped in a cycle shirt and/or pair of trousers. The inspiration came from reading about japanese solid wood pillows and the degree of comfort that they offer.

My pop bottle pillow always offers a good night's sleep.

I don't get on with them at all, (I just use my clothing and add, remove layers as needed) but my OH uses the Exped Comfort Pillow which was in nightly use for well over a year on our aborted world tour. It worked well for him and you can adjust the thickness by adding/removing air as needed

I use one of these (or it might be the smaller version) from Muji:

- the rest of the time I use it for carrying my clothes: I prefer it to a stuff sack.

The Exped pillow would be my recommendation for a blow-up pillow, but resist the temptation to use it to sit on (mine gave way at the seam/joint and was impossible to repair).
