I'll back up @fossyant 's suggestion of Decathlon if you have one near you. For £6 per pair, their Van Rysel road 100 cycling gloves will give you palm coverage in the unlikely event that you have a fall from the bike which is what you're after. Get one pair in your normal size for warm weather and another pair one size up for colder temperatures when you can wear them over a pair of warmer fleece/knitted acrylic gloves.
