Planning to buy a new pair of Assioma power pedals

Morning all,

I already have a pair of the original Assioma Duo pedals, and see they have now released a pair (Assioma Pro RL-2) without the spindle thing on the inside, and 160 hour rechargeable battery life, plus a phenomenal weight.
Randomly a Favero fb advert popped up, with a special offer as they were reduced to £499.99, but then after checking I see even Sigma have them at that price, and I'd suspect there is a fair chance I would get hit for import duty/admin charges as well, so Sigma would be the better choice.

I'm thinking to get a pair ordered, to replace the ones on my aero bike, and then punt those across to my gravel bike, but then I could also detach them and take them with me when I go to Spain, as I do miss having a power reading when riding there.

I've watched the GPLama review, and all looks good, no DCR one yet which is a tad strange unless I have missed it, but just wondered if anyone had bought a pair and had no issues.

The only slight grumble is that they don't technically work with the look cleats, and you need the wellgo/Favero versions, but it's a relatively minor issue.
I did stock up on a few sets before CRC/Wiggle were sold to the underworld, but might see if I can grab a few more from somewhere.
The actual Favero cleats are less than £10 a pair, but frustratingly Sigma, nor seemingly anywhere else here sell them, so I'd either need to go for the copies, or try and source some in Europe and have them sent to my folks.
Oh and I heartily dislike the red stripe - why red?!

Dan, I actually purchased a single sided pair very recently from Sigma and no issues whatsoever. I think the pedal platform is slightly bigger than a standard look which I like, I haven't measured but I am guessing with the pm in the spindle that these are longer also, so Q factor is probably affected (again, no issue for me so far).

Standard Look cleats are absolutely fine, I am using them with no problem.

I think the pedal platform is slightly bigger than a standard look which I like, I haven't measured but I am guessing with the pm in the spindle that these are longer also, so Q factor is probably affected (again, no issue for me so far).

I've had no issue with the older pair, really like the way they simply 'work' and don't need complex calibration, a really specific torque setting, the planets to be in the right orbit etc etc
Re Q factor - AI has spat this out, not checked in detail to see if it is correct, but looks promising:

• Assioma PRO RL-2: +53 mm
• Standard Look Keo (e.g., Blade / Classic): +53 mm (or 54mm depending on the specific model)

Appears to be the same as the Duo as well.

Only very marginal negative is the charging cable, which is proprietary, but is also slightly frustratingly different to that of the duo's, as at least then I could have had a spare.
I do also like the travel mode, but a marginal pain the only way you can wake them is with the charging cable and some power, but hey ho, 3rd world problems and all that.

Yes, the Favero 5 degree float were in the box. I am using the Look 4.5 degree grey with them at the moment. You may want to play around with the pedal tension as they are set quite lightly, but easy to adjust. These will be exactly the same as your old pedals, fit them, pair to the app and you are off.

Interesting on the Q factor, just on appearance alone I would have sworn the Favero were longer but obviously not!

Have to admit I avoided the duo's as the bulky PM on the spindle just put me off, which I appreciate is a daft reason. The fact the PRO RL look like a standard pedal, coupled with me messing around with crank lengths and needing a pedal based system made them a bit of a no brainer for me.

I bought them from favero on a black Friday sale, both of us got hit for import charges which made them about the same as Sigma, a fraction cheaper but not significant. They are mainly on my turbo bike but I put them on a hire bike earlier this year for a week. My mate uses them out side more and at one point they were on his winter bike. I use them with standard shimano cleats, Both of us have had no problems and whilst I think their original battery life was good, the week after we bought them favero launched a free update that doubled the battery life :-)

I ordered a set from Favero... I faffed and Sigma went out of stock. You could still get them on a pre-order at the reduced price but didn't want to chance a long wait. You shouldn't get hit with import charges because the page is plastered with 'no additional import fees' which I take it means they are paying and including in the price.

I've also got original Assiomas, and they have been great, but the new ones look much sleeker and are usefully lighter, so will be a nice little upgrade for the best bike and allowing me to shunt the old ones to a different bike.

I forget the exact numbers but on Black Friday from Favero they were about £150 cheaper than Sigma sale price. Until import charges (bl00dy Brexsh1t) which brought them only to slightly cheaper and the Sigma store is only 45mins drive from here if anything had went wrong, it hasn't though. I also had their original BePro S and it was still good after 10years of a lot of use the battery would still last months.

I got my original Assiomas from that Black Friday sale.... and yes I had to pay duty then but they have have changed the duty approach since then. There is now a big banner on the top of the page saying free shipping and no extra charges on delivery that wasn't there before. And they have adjusted all prices upwards to align with resellers like Sigma. So IMO, pretty safe to assume duty paid.

I did look at this seriously, but it seems there is a significant postal charge on top (16 euros I think) even to have it sent to Spain, and I think (understandably) it was even more here.

I may end up going that route long term, but in the meantime remembered I had a couple of lots of yellow pin stripe, one of which I had used on another bikes mudguards, since PXed out.

One was too narrow, and one was ever so slightly too wide, so with the help of some scissors, I managed to trim it down ever so slightly, and apply as below:

As some of you know, occasionally I have a thing for black and yellow.........
I will see how it goes - the same application on the mudguards lasted really well, aside from an Evans employee wheeling it up on the back wheel & mudguard and scraping the end of the pin stripe off 🤡 but aside from that, it didn't ever need replacing, or even start coming off.

Worst case on these, if it comes off really often, or I just need to re-apply occasionally - I have tons of the stuff comparatively, and each covering is maybe 3-4cm at most.

This was pretty easy, I took my time, but it was 10 minutes at most.

In contrast I tried to wrap a crank with a power meter at the weekend, and gave up in the end, and just put some over the front decal, I just couldn't get anything even vaguely approaching a viable finish, like the chap who wrapped the other side and the entire bike, who has a ton of skill, but stopped doing it sadly.

FWIW, I recently bought a set of the latest SPD version direct from Favero as they were much cheaper than anywhere else.
They arrived as quickly as most UK outlets and there was no taxes or fees due, as per their webpage.

It looks like their headline may be that they include all fees on power meters & I think they have free delivery currently as well on them, but on smaller items there are extra fees to be added:

That's to the UK - to Spain shipping is still 16 Euros, but of course nothing beyond that.

50 euros for cleats! I understand it is out of their control, but I think with things like this there is little point even offering them for UK shipping as who would realistically even pay 40 euros extra for a £10 pair of cleats?
