I had a pair of Hunter wellies that lasted me 11 years and last year were replaced by a new pair of Hunter. Unfortunately they split after a few months. I now realise that Hunter not longer makes quality wellington boots, probably this is the case since they moved the manufacturing process to China.

Can you recommend an alternative?

Dunno - my wellies were purchased about 20 years ago (cheap unbranded make) and are still going strong.

Wet in Bournemouth is it?

Mr summerdays has just bought some Joules ones ... He wanted to find a more comfortable pair, but as he only wore them for the fist time today I can't comment on their longevity. Having tried them on they did feel comfy but I don't think I would pay that's much for a pair of wellies!

I've got a great pair of Dunlop wellies supplied by Yorkshire Water that have served me well for 30 years of occasional use. Great value at 'never returned to the stores at the end of my summer job'.

I still have a pair of Hunters that were made in Scotland. Have you looked at Muck boots?

I've just bought a couple of pairs of wellies for my wife and I, we went for Aigle in the end, they are excellent boots so they are my recommendation.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
Mine are cheap and cheerful wellies from a farm shop that caters for everything farming from nails to tractors to home made biscuits. I wouldn't bother with anything expensive. Any cheap wellies. There isn't much to choose between them, in fact I think they are dunlop.

Unfortunately my wellies are so old I can't read the label. But they were made in Italy

Bought my wife some Jimmy Choo Hunters a couple of years ago - if they were for me I wouldn't have paid over a fiver.

My guess is that if you had to walk miles in them you would be willing to pay a little more than a fiver ^_^

Do you want all day comfort, fitted calves and ankles, cleated walking sole and expanding, zipped gusset, or full length zip? Toggi Wanderers are every bit as good as Le Chameaux, Aigle, top end Hunters etc. I've had a pair of the full length zip Esprit for about six years now, still going strong.

@Cubist thanks for the info and the link. These look great and just what I had in mind. I'm looking at the
AIGLE Parcours ISO 2 boots which have great reviews all over the internet, forums, etc but they are £140 or so. I can't find much info on these Toggi Wanderers - I'm specially interested in walking which includes walking in mud or in the rain, up to 10 miles, so they have to be comfortable. I must look after my feet so I cant end up with blisters after a long walk.
Do they run true to size? The Aigle run a little large. A bit concerned with the zip reliability though. I'm trying to find out where these boots are made as I'm not prepared to spend another £100 in boots made in China.

I wonder how much walking you do cause 6 years is a long time and it would say a lot for these boots.

When you say these boots are every bit as good as the Aigle, is that because you have experienced the Aigles too?

Thanks for the info.... they certainly are strong contenders.

if you want a firm thick tread and insulated - try aigle wellies

mine are 20years old from a fishing tackle shop

Yes, Aigles are highly recommended for comfort and they last very long. I read in a forum, a man claiming he got 1000 miles out his Aigles boots. (walking his dogs). They are my number 1 choice ATM.

I'm considering the Toggi boots that @Cubist suggested, they look great and if they are made in the UK I'll get a pair anyway
