OiCan anyone suggest any top eateries in Edinburgh? Heading there with Mrs V for her birthday in May and would like to treat her to somewhere half decent.

As you are looking at London...if you ask for tea...you'll get (high) tea not dinner (supper)yes - "tea" in my thread title really means "dinner" if you're darn sarf
We're looking for the main meal of the day.
Oh, and I do like the look of Chez Bruce, thanks
Yes, I know... the tread title was a bit tongue in cheek. As you are looking at London...if you ask for tea...you'll get (high) tea not dinner (supper)![]()
If you drink Dom Perignon at the Ritz, I'm sure easilyYes, I know... the tread title was a bit tongue in cheek.
Can you really spend £100 per head on high-tea?
I like the sound of that tooIf you drink Dom Perignon at the Ritz, I'm sure easily
The woolsey is fun but very noisy, unless you can bag one of the high tables in the old sales offices, they are, at least little enclosed.Chez Bruce (French so not veggie obvs, but scrummy and a really nice atmosphere too) - maybe a bit out but close to Wandsworth Common train station (or an easy Uber from the centre)
The Wolsey always has a good rep
Buy tea, presumably you mean dinner rather than afternoon tea (or lunch) - i.e. a meal, not sarnies, cakes and a glass of bubbly/pot of Earl Grey?
That will be Thursday I guess; we're staying @ the LSE on SouthbankThe bit in struggling with is portion sizes. Most the contemporary places (like oblix or aqua) serve small portions. The oblix isn't great either but is ok for a quick lunch (£50 a head) and has good views...sometimes a live jazz band too. aqua shard is better but again, is a bit "busy" in my opinion. Both are a nightmare if either of the dedicated lifts are out of order, you can queue up for 40 minutes to get out!!
For my money, id be inclined to think about a good steakhouse (ISK in Soho), which has a wine or cocktail bar attached.
Or save some cash on a walk along south bank in the warm night air.... grab a menagerie of food from the many street vendors, do the tate modern and take a room at citizen M opposite tower bridge. (£150 a night with views of the tower) they have a really good vibe, that might be a more interesting experience of laaandaan.
All in, less than £200.
Sounds like a great week planned. That will be Thursday I guess; we're staying @ the LSE on Southbank
Foodies...
...I am looking for a recommendation for a posh lunch or dinner in London on a Friday in August.
We think we want a fancy tasting menu, Michelin starred, veggie or pork free, where we can wear (smart) jeans and casual shoes at about £100 per head. Cuisine is not necessarily important; we'll both eat pretty much anything (barring pork). We looked at Atul Kochhar but we're both very greedy boys (we prefer to say "gourmands") and looking at the menu we're worried that wouldn't be enough food![]()
That does look good value. One to consider for Thursday as well.3 courses coffee petit fours plus 1/2 bottle of wine =£49
