I doubt the machine is not up to running Windows 10. I had an old PC (originally Windows 7) that had, from memory, similar specs to this. Upgrading it to Windows 10 failed via the automatic MS process so I wiped it completely, re-installed Windows 7 from the original disk and ran the upgrade with no problem. I guessed some software/drivers installed since the original set-up had caused problems.

My daughter uses it for homework, YouTube, and it is running well with Win10.
I've seen this work too. Reinstall Win 7 and then go to the Win 10 upgrade.

The 32 bit OS is setting my alarm bells ringing, the core 2 quad cpu is capable of 64 bit addressing, so add a 64bit OS and if you were to add more memory perhaps then you'd have a fairly useable computer right there.

I run Ubuntu trusty tahr on an 10 year old less powerful machine than that. I have 4gb ram but not a quad core cpu.

I use it all the time, when I work at home. I love it

Bugger, I think it's too late for the free upgrade to 10 now though.

Linux MINT. Great OS. love it to bits on my laptop
I've run a few versions of Mint. Quite often they are almost as resource intensive as Windows.

Well this week vista started playing up badly. Stopped playing online videos, started realy hanging on normal sites and not loading pages or taking an age, even CC. Strangely it would always play BBC radio player shows without exception. I tried doing system restores twice but both times I got a message saying it hadn't worked properly then it wouldn't even let me access the restore option. In the end I went nuclear and went for a full destructive restore to factory settings. No loss of data as there are 2 500Gb drives in and the 360Gb of movies and over 100Gb of movies were on the D: drive.

None of the above solved the problems so earlier today I stuck on Lubuntu. It gives you the option to try without installing so I guess this runs of the boot disc. ...So far EVERYTHING works properly again.
It'll be like learning to walk again getting used to it but I generally only use it for surfing and music.

Available to download at Software Geeks for only £14.99 - LINK. I replaced Win XP on this laptop with Win 7 a few months ago and I like it. They email you the license key.
Thanks, that's great - they're currently doing Win10 OEM for £19.99. I have a laptop with a motherboard short that I will get repaired and then pop 10 on. Thanks for the link.
